Little East honor for PSU Men’s Basketball player
Nwokeji named Rookie of the Week for Panthers
PLYMOUTH, N.H. – A freshman on the Plymouth State University men's basketball team was honored Monday with a top weekly honor from the Little East Conference as 2012-13 season gets underway.
Freshman Uche Nwokeji (Lynn, Mass./Lynn Classical) was named Little East Rookie of the Week for the Panthers. He led the team to a 1-1 record as PSU opened the season at the Bridgewater State University Tip-Off Classic with a consolation game victory over Becker College.
A 6'4" forward, Nwokeji averaged a double-double in his first two collegiate games, earning selection to the All-Tournament Team. He averaged 13.5 points and 10.5 rebounds in the two games, making 11-of-13 from the free throw line. He finished with 14 points and 12 boards in the opener, a 70-64 loss to Bridgewater State University, and he collected 13 points and nine rebounds in the 71-68 triumph over Becker.
After the first weekend of the season, Nwokeji leads the LEC in rebounding (10.5 rpg) and ranks eighth in scoring (13.5 ppg) and sixth in free throw percentage (.846).
The Panthers have one more game before the Thanksgiving break, a non-conference match-up Tuesday at Castleton State College.
