Skevas named Co-Player of the Week for Panthers
PLYMOUTH, N.H. – The starting point guard on the Plymouth State University men's basketball team was honored Monday with a top weekly honor from the Little East Conference for his performance in a loss to Castleton State College last week.
Junior Petey Skevas (Wethersfield, Conn./Wethersfield) was named Little East Co-Player of the Week for the Panthers. Skevas shared this week's honor with Chris Robitaille of Eastern Connecticut State University.
A 6'1" guard, Skevas scored a game-high 30 points in PSU's 95-89 loss to Castleton, accounting for 33.7 percent of the team's offense. He connected on 11-of-16 from the field and 8-of-9 from the free throw line while adding four assists and a steal. Skevas scored 19 points in a span of nine minutes, 19 seconds in the second half as PSU fought back from a 15-point deficit to pull to within four before falling to the Spartans.
Skevas is averaging 14.3 points and 4.0 assists so far this season. He had a breakout campaign in 2011-12, ranking 10th in the LEC in scoring (12.6 points per game) and second in assists (6.0 per game) behind Little East Player of the Year DaQuan Brooks of Western Connecticut State University. He also ranked fourth in free throw percentage (.763), fifth in steals (1.8 per game) and 17th in rebounding (4.7 per game).
