PSU Men’s Basketball knocks off Johnson State
Panthers post third straight win
JOHNSON, Vt. – The Plymouth State University men's basketball team recorded its third straight victory Thursday evening, defeating Johnson State College 65-50 in non-conference action.
The Panthers were paced by junior Petey Skevas (Wethersfield, Conn.) with a 17-point, six-rebound and five-assist effort. Senior Kevin Eisenberg (Moultonborough, N.H.) chipped in 10 points and freshmen Uche Nwokeji (Lynn, Mass.) and Tom Barbeau (Waterville Valley, N.H.) added nine points apiece.
The Badgers were led by junior Bryan Hickey (Barre, Vt./Spaulding) who scored 14 points on 5-of-12 shooting.
Johnson State led 7-4 midway through the first half, but PSU came back to take the lead. It was a one-point Panther lead with five minutes remaining, when PSU scored the last eight points of the half and kept the Badgers off the scoreboard, and the two teams went into the locker room with a PSU 30-21 halftime lead.
Plymouth State scored the first six points of the second half to push the margin to 15 points. Johnson pulled to within seven points, 47-40, with seven minutes remaining, but a 7-1 swing for PSU made it a 13-point game with four minutes left and the Panthers held on for the win.
Both teams return to conference play Saturday when Johnson (7-12) hosts North Atlantic Conference rival Lyndon State while Plymouth State (6-14) hosts Little East Conference foe Eastern Connecticut State University.
