Nwokeji finishes strong freshman season for Panthers
PLYMOUTH, N.H. – A freshman on the Plymouth State University men's basketball team was honored Tuesday with a selection to the Little East Conference All-Rookie Team for 2012-13.
Freshman forward Uche Nwokeji (Lynn, Mass./Lynn Classical) was PSU's representative on the LEC All-Rookie Team. Nwokeji made an impact for the Panthers this season, starting 18 of his 25 games.
A 6'4" forward, Nwokeji averaged 6.8 points and 7.1 rebounds in his rookie campaign, shooting 47.5 percent from the field. His numbers rank fifth in the LEC in rebounding and lead the league in offensive boards (3.2 per game). He came on strong at the end of the season, averaging 10.8 points and 12.3 rebounds over his last four games, including a 14-point, 21-rebound effort against the University of Southern Maine. The 21 rebounds were the most in a game for a Plymouth State player since 2001.
Nwokeji also broke on to the scene in fine fashion, posting a double-double in his collegiate debut with 14 points and 12 rebounds against Bridgewater State University, and earning BSU All-Tournament Team honors with a 13-point, nine-rebound performance the next day against Becker College. That effort earned him LEC Rookie of the Week honors.
Nwokeji helped the Panthers to a 7-19 overall record and a 3-11 mark in the LEC under second-year head coach Andrew Novick. The Panthers gave a strong challenge to upset Keene State in the Little East quarterfinals but fell to the Owls, 74-68.
