Arsenault leads Panthers to victory in 2014 Boys & Girls Club Classic
CONCORD, N.H. – Sophomore Curtis Arsenault (Berlin, N.H.) led all scorers with 20 points as Plymouth State University dominated Rivier University, 81-32, in the second game of the 2014 Boys & Girls Club Classic at NHTI Tuesday night.
Arsenault, 9-of-11 from the floor, led an efficient Panther attack that controlled the game from the opening tip. Freshman Brian Boulay (Keene, N.H.) contributed 14 points in just six minutes and senior Alex Burt (Dover, N.H.) added 13 points on 5-of-7 shooting, including 3-of-4 from long range.
Plymouth State came out firing on all cylinders opening the game with a 9-0 run over the first three minutes. After a pair of Rivier free throws the Panthers held the Raiders scoreless for over ten minutes while the lead ballooned to 25-2. PSU led 42-10 at halftime thanks to some impressive shooting (18-of-28 for 64.3%), a swarming defense (eight steals) and by controlling the boards (20-8).
In all Plymouth State turned 28 Rivier turnovers into 31 points, enjoyed a +20 rebounding advantage and had a 12-3 edge in assists. The Panthers outscored the Raiders 42-20 in the paint and pulled down 12 offensive rebounds.
Rivier was led by freshman Andre Ruff (Lowell, Mass.) and senior Jake Nelson (Nashua, N.H.), who combined for 15 points.
Plymouth State (1-1) will square off with Endicott Friday night (7:00 p.m.) in the Colby Classic at Colby College in Waterville, Maine. Rivier (0-2) hosts the Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences Friday night (8:00 p.m.) in the opening night of the Rivier University Tip-Off Tournament.
