Leroy named Rookie of the Week
PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Plymouth State University men's basketball freshman Jaylen Leroy (Manchester, N.H.) was named Little East Conference (LEC) Rookie of the Week for his role in a 2-1 week for the Panthers, as announced by the conference office today.
Leroy averaged 15.3 points per game, including a game-high 26 points in an LEC win over Rhode Island College on Saturday. The rookie guard finished 8-of-11 against RIC and an impressive 6-of-9 from three-point range in a dramatic 71-70 win over the Anchormen. He also scored 16 points in a 90-82 loss at Colby-Sawyer last Monday (Nov. 28) and pulled down a career-high six rebounds in a 68-63 win at Lyndon State on Thursday (Dec. 1).
Leroy finished the week averaging 26.7 minutes while shooting 55.6% (15-of-27) from the floor, and 46.7% (7-of-15) from beyond the arc. He is currently second on the team in scoring (75 points/12.5 ppg) and is the Panthers' top option from downtown, shooting nearly 50% (12-of-25) from long range.
PSU closes the fall semester with a busy week as the Panthers play three home games in the next five days. Plymouth State hosts Framingham State University tonight (7:00 p.m.) and Thomas College (Maine) on Thursday (7:00 p.m.), before squaring off against LEC rival University of Massachusetts-Dartmouth at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday.
