PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Sophomore Jaylen Leroy (Manchester, N.H.) and junior Liam Densmore (Portland, Maine) combined to hit 12 three-pointers as Plymouth State University rolled over Rivier University, 87-69, in men's basketball action during the second game of the Girls & Boys Club Classic at NHTI.
Leroy finished with a game-high 30 points while draining 6-of-10 from long range, while Densmore added 20 points while shooting 6-of-12 from distance.
Rivier (0-1) opened the game with four straight points, but in a sign of things to come Leroy drained a three-pointer from the right wing to spark the Panthers to a 10-0 run. Densmore added his first triple and PSU pulled in front 10-4.
Leroy added two more from beyond the arc, but the Raiders answered with seven straight points, including a deep three from sophomore Joshua L'Heureux (Dracut, Mass.). Sophomore Janvier Johnson (Glastonbury, Conn.) connected from inside to spark the Panthers to a 9-0 spurt before L'Heureux connected from deep again.
PSU (1-0) maintained a double-digit lead until junior Angel Perez (Miami, Fla.) had five straight points to cut the margin to 29-23. Densmore caught fire from long range, draining three shots from downtown to push the Panthers' lead to 38-23. A pair of free throws from junior Isiah Marks (Brooklyn, N.Y.) made the score 38-25 at the half.
Densmore and Leroy continued the impressive long range shooting display in the second half. They each connected from deep in the first three minutes of the second half, and a layup from junior Chase Soares (Falmouth, Mass.) pushed the lead to 21 (52-31). Five minutes later Densmore connected from deep again, and a pair of free throws from junior Mike Osgood (Nashua, N.H.) put PSU in front 64-35.
Plymouth maintained a 20-point lead through the final nine minutes.
Perez led the Raiders with 15 points on five-of-eight shooting, including three-of-four from downtown. L'Heureux added 12 points and four rebounds, while sophomore Keith Poitier (East Hartford, Conn.) and freshman Tyler Bradanese (Billerica, Mass.) each chipped in with ten points.
