PSU Men’s Basketball upends Framingham State

Leroy, Osgood pace Panthers to non-conference win over Rams

FRAMINGHAM, Mass. – Junior Mike Osgood (Nashua, N.H.) converted an old-fashioned three-point play following a timeout with 1:26 remaining in the second half and sophomore Jaylen Leroy (Manchester, N.H.) was perfect from the free throw line down the stretch to lead Plymouth State University to a 58-51 win over Framingham State University in men's basketball action on Tuesday evening.

With the win the Panthers even their record at 3-3, while the Rams fall to 2-6.

PSU opened the game with an 8-0 run with Osgood scoring six of the team's points. After the Rams answered with a seven-point spurt, junior Chase Soares (Falmouth, Mass.) drained a three-pointer to give the Panthers an 11-7 lead. The Rams battled back to tie the game at 13-13 and the two teams exchanged leads throughout the remained of the first half, with PSU gaining a 20-18 edge after a layup from Leroy. Osgood and Leroy each added buckets and a pair of free throws from Soares sent the Panthers to the locker room up 27-22.

Plymouth State opened up the second half with a 7-2 run and expanded their lead to ten on a layup from freshman Dimmone Marshall (Roslindale, Mass.). FSU responded with a 15-2 run to take the lead, 39-36. After the teams traded baskets, another Soares triple tied the game at 41 apiece. PSU opened up a seven point lead with Soares and Osgood adding buckets for the Panthers.

The Rams once again chipped away at the lead and with just 1:37 remaining the hosts tied the game on a layup from sophomore Tyri Hampton (Fitchburg, Mass.).

Osgood hit a driving layup to give the Panthers the lead, then converted the and-one from the charity stripe. PSU's defense stifled the Rams' final two attempts and Leroy sank all four of his free throw attempts to seal the win for Plymouth State.

Osgood and Leroy each dropped 15 points, while Soares came off the bench to add 12 points and three rebounds. Junior Chris Calnan (Wakefield, Mass.) finished with a game-high nine rebounds.

The Panthers return to action on Thursday (Dec. 7) when they travel to Elms College. Tip-off is set for 7:00 p.m.
