PSU Men’s Basketball downed by Keene State

Bonney-Liles nets career-high in LEC loss

KEENE, N.H. – Freshman Sam Bonney-Liles (Hudson, N.H.) poured in a career-high 23 points to lead four Panthers in double-figures, but the Plymouth State University men's basketball team fell to Little East Conference (LEC) rival Keene State College, 95-81, at Spaulding Gymnasium on Wednesday night.

Bonney-Liles finished 7-of-15 from the field, drilled four three-pointers and added six rebounds, three assists and three steals in his breakout performance. Sophomore Jaylen Leroy (Manchester, N.H.) added 19 points, with junior Mike Osgood (Nashua, N.H.) and freshman Ruay Bol (South Portland, Maine) both chipping in with 16 points.

With the setback the Panthers fall to 6-11 (0-8 LEC), while Keene State improves to 13-5 and 7-1 in league games.

The two teams were even after the opening three minutes until the Owls used a 13-0 run to take control. Osgood connected twice from the charity stripe to momentarily slow the momentum, but Keene responded with another eight-straight points to take a commanding 26-7 lead midway through the first half.

Bonney-Liles showed off his inside-outside game getting to the basket then draining a triple on consecutive possessions, but Keene was able to maintain the advantage. The Panthers scored seven of the final ten points in the half to pull within 51-29 at the break.

PSU's offense heated up in the second half as the team poured in 52 points over the final 20 minutes, but the Owls' lead was too much to overcome. Plymouth trailed by roughly 20 points the majority of the half until a late flurry in the final minutes when Bonney-Liles connected twice from beyond the arc. Bol capped the scoring with a pair of freebies to account for the 95-81 final.

The Panthers forced 24 Keene State turnovers and put up 14 more shots than the Owls, but the hosts shot 57.6% (34-of-59) from the field to earn the win.

Plymouth is back in action on Saturday when the Panthers welcome #17 Eastern Connecticut State University to Foley Gymnasium for a 3:00 p.m. LEC contest.
