Osgood named Player of the Week for second time
PLYMOUTH, N.H. – The second-leading scorer of the Plymouth State University men's basketball team was honored by the Little East Conference (LEC) for his play over the last week.
Junior Mike Osgood (Nashua, N.H.) was named the LEC Men's Basketball Player of the Week after leading the Panthers to a 1-1 week.
Osgood averaged 30.5 points, 8.0 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 2.0 steals per game while shooting 57% (25-of-44) from the field and 50% (5-of-10) from beyond the arc.
He poured in 30 points to go with 11 rebounds, three assists and two steals in an 84-75 overtime upset of rival Keene State College on Wednesday, then netted 31 points with five rebounds, five assists and two steals in a setback to Rhode Island College on Saturday.
Osgood finished 11-of-20 from the floor (55.0%) and 3-of-4 from distance against KSC. His triple from the right wing evened the game at 67-apiece with just seven seconds remaining in regulation. In the extra session he outscored the entire Owls team, 9-8, as the Panthers earned the win.
Against RIC he went 14-of-24 (58.3%) from the field and 2-of-6 from long range. His layup with 4:14 to play gave the Panthers an 87-86 lead, but the Anchormen outscored Plymouth 11-4 the rest of the way to secure the victory.
Osgood has reached the 30-point plateau five times this season with all coming over the last ten games. He currently sits second in the league in scoring averaging 21.6 points per game and fourth in rebounding with a 7.5 rebounds per game average.
The Panthers enter the LEC Tournament as the #8 seed and will play in a first round game on Tuesday. PSU travels to top-seeded Eastern Connecticut State University for a 7:30 p.m. game. The Warriors are currently #11 in the nation in the latest D3hoops.com poll.
