Osgood named to All-Northeast Region
PLYMOUTH, N.H. – The junior captain of the Plymouth State University men's basketball team was recognized by D3hoops.com with inclusion on its All-Northeast Region team on Tuesday.
Forward Mike Osgood (Nashua, N.H.), the Panthers' second leading scorer and top rebounder, was selected to the D3hoops.com All-Northeast Region Third Team. Players chosen to the All-Region teams are eligible for All-American selection. The All-American team will be announced in conjunction with the Division III men's championships at the end of this week.
This is the 17th year D3hoops.com has named an All-Region team and this year's All-America team will be the 21st annual All-American selections.
Osgood led the Panthers in scoring 12 times while averaging 21.4 points per game, the 34th highest mark in the country and second highest in the Little East Conference (LEC). He eclipsed the 30-point plateau five times and poured in a career-best 38 points in a game against Eastern Connecticut State University on Jan. 27. At the time the Warriors were ranked #17 in the nation.
The 6-8 forward was the only player in the LEC to finish in the top five in the conference in points (second), rebounds (fourth) and field goal percentage (fifth). He pulled down an average of 7.5 rebounds per game while connecting on 51.3% of his attempts from the field. He currently sits 37th among the program's all-time scoring leaders with 939 points, just 61 shy of becoming the 31st 1,000-point scorer in program history.
Osgood, an All-LEC First Team selection, joins senior Tarchee Brown of Eastern Connecticut State University and junior Ty Nichols of Keene State College as the only LEC representatives on the All-Region teams. Brown and Nichols were both Second Team selections.
More than 680 players nationwide were nominated for All-Region consideration by Sports Information Directors at the various schools. The ballot was then made available to SIDs, who voted for a predetermined number of players in their respective regions.
PSU ended the year 10-16 overall (2-12 LEC) after bowing out to #10 Eastern Connecticut in the first round of the LEC Tournament. The Panthers will lose just two players to graduation and eight of the 15 expected returners were in their freshman or sophomore years.
