Rivera named Player of the Week
PLYMOUTH, N.H. – After helping the Plymouth State University men's basketball team to an unbeaten week, sophomore Dante Rivera (Methuen, Mass.) has earned Little East Conference (LEC) weekly recognition by being named the Player of the Week.
Rivera was on fire over the last week, shooting over 64% from the floor and better than 70% from beyond the arc while averaging 28.5 points per game to lead the Panthers to a pair of LEC wins. On Wednesday he matched a career high with 34 points while draining seven three-pointers (7-of-9) and added two steals and two rebounds in a 99-80 win over Southern Maine. He followed that up with a 23-point effort in the Panthers' 75-63 win at UMass Dartmouth on Saturday. He went 7-of-12 from the field, including 5-of-8 from distance, and added two boards and four steals to his stat line.
Rivera has hit at least five triples in each of the Panthers' last three games and currently ranks second on the team and seventh in the LEC in scoring with a 16.8 points per game average. He's reached the 20-point plateau in six of his last ten games, including each of the last three. His 39.8% shooting from behind the three-point line ranks ninth in the league.
Plymouth State (8-7, 3-4 LEC) looks to extend its strong play into another LEC contest at UMass Boston on Wednesday (Jan. 22). Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m.
