Cooper, Henry named Player, Rookie of the Week
PLYMOUTH, N.H. – After helping Plymouth State University extend its winning streak to four in a row, a pair of Panthers' men's basketball players have earned Little East Conference (LEC) weekly recognition.
Cooper averaged 16.0 points and 14.5 rebounds as the Panthers topped a pair of LEC opponents last week. He poured in 17 points and ripped down 17 rebounds as PSU rallied from a 13-point deficit to top UMass Boston, 68-59, on Wednesday, then added a 15-point, 12-rebound effort while draining the game-winning three-pointer at the buzzer as the Panthers outlasted RIC, 64-61, on Saturday.
Cooper has been a beast since making his return to the lineup on Jan. 18. He has recorded double-doubles in each of his three games since and went 7-of-11 from the floor in the win over the Anchormen. His 17 rebounds against UMass Boston were a season high and just two shy of his career best. His 9.5 rebounds per game ranks second in the league, while he's averaging 12.3 points per game and shooting better than 51% from the field.
Despite missing Saturday's contest due to injury, Henry was named Rookie of the Week after scoring 15 points on 5-of-7 shooting in PSU's win at UMass Boston. He added five rebounds, two assists, a steal and a block in the game.
The rookie has been a key contributor off the bench since the calendar turned to 2020, averaging 9.1 points and 4.6 rebounds per game, while shooting 64.7% (22-of-34) from the field. Over those seven games he's added ten steals and eight assists. His 59.5% field goal percentage tops the team (min. five fg attempts).
The Panthers (10-7, 5-4 LEC) host Northern Vermont-Lyndon on Spirit Night tomorrow (Jan. 28) at 7:30 p.m.
