GORHAM, Maine -- The University of Southern Maine Huskies scored four unanswered goals to overcome a two-goal deficit on the way to posting a 4-2 victory over the visiting Plymouth State College Panthers in a non-conference game Tuesday evening at the USM Ice Arena.

The win snapped the Huskies' six-game losing streak and improved their overall record to 1-6-0. The Panthers fall to 1-4-1 overall.

After the Huskies killed off a two-man, 1:58 shorthanded situation to open the third period, senior forward Brett DePetrillo (Bradford, Mass.) finished off a pretty three-pass combination with a quick wrist shot past PSC freshman goalie Mike Mansson (Wilson, Wy.) to give the Huskies their first lead of the night, 3-2, at 3:03. The goal, coming on the power play, was DePetrillo's fourth of the season. Juniors Tony Coates (Goose Bay, Newfoundland) and Ian Penney (Anchorage, Alaska) picked up the assists on the play.

Southern Maine added an insurance goal at 10:57 when sophomore Bobby Sloper (Concord, N.H.) lifted a backhand shot over Mansson. Coates picked up his second assist of the night.

Plymouth State took a 1-0 lead with the only goal of the first period despite being outshot 14-7. Senior Matt McPhee (Plymouth, Mass.) tapped home the rebound of his own shot for his second goal of the season. McPhee's first shot was stopped by USM rookie netminder Tim MacIntosh (Hudson, N.H.), but McPhee was able to get a stick on the rebound and push it across the line.

The Panthers doubled their lead 49 seconds into the second period as freshman Garrett Dionne (Clarence, N.Y.) scored his second goal.

Freshman Scott Irwin (Mississauga, Ontario) put the Huskies on the board at 2:06 with his team-leading fifth goal of the season. Junior John Lauziere (Lewiston, Maine) tied the game at 2-2 at 10:36 when he redirected senior Darren Roche's (Corner Brook, Newfoundland) shot between Mansson's legs.

Mansson finished the night with 35 saves. MacIntosh was credited with 17 saves. USM outshot the Panthers 39-19.

Southern Maine will host Salve Regina University in its next game Friday night. Plymouth State travels to upstate New York to play Fredonia State and Buffalo State this weekend.
