PSC no match for Buffalo State
BUFFALO, N.Y. - Buffalo State College scored six unanswered second period goals Saturday night, and went on to bombard Plymouth State College in a non-conference ice hockey game, 10-1.
The loss was the fifth straight for the Panthers, all non-ECAC Northeast Conference contests, and drops PSC to 1-6-1 overall. Plymouth State is still 1-1-0 in the conference. Buffalo State, a member of the powerful State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC), improves to 6-7-0.
The Bengals led 2-0 after one period, but outshot the Panthers 16-5 in the second period to surge to an 8-0 lead. Buff. State finished the game with a 39-28 advantage in shots on goal.
Senior Jeff Lacapruccia and junior Josh Bluman led the Bengals with two goals and an assist apiece.
Plymouth State avoided the shutout when sophomore Dan Molinari (Hyannis, Mass.) scored a power play goal with 3:53 to play in the game. It was Molinati's first of the season, and was assisted by junior Chris Tortorella (Larchmont, N.Y.) and Mike Jackson (Middleton, Mass.)
Junior Larry Forgue (Nashua, N.H.) and freshman Mike Mansson (Wilson, Wy.) combined to make 29 saves in the Panther net. Sophomore Nick Berti and junior Rick Steen combined for 27 saves for the Bengals.
PSC is now idle for three weeks for final exams and the holidays. The Panthers return to action on Friday and Saturday, Dec. 29-30, when they face New England College and Potsdam State in the NEC Holiday Tournament in Henniker, N.H.
