Panthers shut out Suffolk
WATERVILLE VALLEY, N.H. - Junior Larry Forgue (Nashua, N.H.) made 24 saves Tuesday night to earn his first shutout of the season and fifth of his career, leading Plymouth State College to a 4-0 whitewash over Suffolk University in an ECAC Northeast Conference ice hockey game at Waterville Valley Ice Arena.
The Panthers scored once in each of the first two periods, then iced the victory with two goals in the final two minutes of the third frame. The victory improves PSC to 4-16-1 overall and 4-9-0 in the Northeast, while Suffolk drops to 8-8-1 and 6-7-0.
Freshman Eric Clark (West Hartford, Conn.) put PSC on the board at the 5:49 mark of the first period, with sophomore Dave Moore (Anchorage, AK) and freshman Garrett Dionne (Clarence Center, N.Y.) picking up assists. Freshman Mike Jackson (Middleton, Mass.) made it 2-0 with a power play goal a minute and 29 seconds into the second period, with an assist from sophomore Dan Molinari (Hyannis, Mass.).
It remained a 2-0 game until the closing minutes, when Suffolk pulled goalie Matt Consentino (Dedham, Mass.). PSC senior Matt McPhee (Plymouth, Mass.) put the game away with an empty net goal at 18:54, and Dionne added his team-leading eighth goal by beating Consentino at the 19:24 mark. Freshman Rob Brady (Madbury, N.H.) assisted on both late goals, and Molinari picked up his second assist on the final tally.
PSC returns to action Saturday at home against Fitchburg State (4 p.m.), while Suffolk travels to Lebanon Valley Saturday (6:30 p.m.).
