CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Senior tri-captain Dan Mahoney (Tewksbury, Mass.) set up sophomore Mike Carceo (Belmont, Mass.) for the game-winning goal 2:35 into overtime as the host Jumbos edged Plymouth State College in ECAC Northeast Division college hockey action Monday night.

Trailing 2-0 after the first period, Plymouth State fought back and tied the game at 3-3 on junior Chris Tortorella's (Larchmont, N.Y.) wrist shot with 1:56 remaining in the third period. It was Tortorella's first goal of the second and just the second of his career. PSC junior Aaron Fifield (Northfield Falls, Vt.) was then whistled off the ice for a five-minute major slashing penalty less than a minute later. Tufts could not capitalize during regulation, but Mahoney beautifullyset up Carceo halfway into OT for the winner.

Jumbo power play goals by sophomores Rob LaQuaglia (Medford, Mass.) and Chris Martin (Arlington, Mass.) were scored 17 seconds apart late in the first period to give Tufts a 2-0 lead. PSC freshman Garrett Dionne (Clarence Center, N.Y.) cut the margin in half with the first of his two goals at 11:33 of the second. Junior Jason Boudrow (Somerville, Mass.) restored the two-goal bulge for Tufts with his 28th of the season at 14:40 of the middle stanza.

PSC played a determined third, pulling to within 3-2 on Dionne's second tally and 11th of the season at the 1:40 mark. The Panthers tied the game late, but could not pull off the upset as Tufts capitalized with its third power play goal of the game.

Panther goalie Larry Forgue (Nashua, N.H.) made 30 saves, and Tufts goaltender Ben Crasper was credited with 15 saves.

The Panthers, 4-18-1 overall and 4-10-0 in the Northeast, play their final home game of the season Saturday (Feb. 17) against Worcester State at Waterville Valley Ice Arena (4 p.m.) Tufts is now 16-5-0 overall and 14-1-0 in the Northeast.
