PSC falls in PAL Cup Tourney opener

HOOKSETT, N.H. - The College of Saint Scholastica (Minn.) overcame a 1-0 deficit with five unanswered goals Saturday and went on to register a 5-2 victory over Plymouth State College in the opening game of the 7th annual Police Athletic League (PAL) Cup Tournament at Tri-Town Arena.

The Panthers will face host Southern New Hampshire University (formerly New Hampshire College) in the consolation game on Sunday at 1:00 p.m., followed at 4:00 p.m. by the championship match-up between CSS and Saint Anselm College. SNHU fell to St. A's in Saturday's second game, 3-1.

Sophomore Mike Jackson (Middleton, Mass.) scored both goals for the Panthers, with senior Aaron Fifield (Northfield Falls, Vt.) assisting on both plays. Jackson gave PSC a 1-0 lead nine minutes into the game with a power play goal, and closed out the scoring with his second marker with four minutes left in the game. In between, however, St. Scholastica got second-period goals from Jeff Hall, Phil McDonald, and Sean Andrews and third-period tallies from Nick Dolentz and Jason Brabec.

Sophomore Mike Mansson (Wilson, WY) got the start in the Panther net and made 35 saves, including 17 in the first period. CSS goalie Cory Lonke was called on to make 17 stops, as PSC was outshot 40-19.

PSC, 1-3-0 overall heading into Sunday's game, plays another non-conference road game Tuesday (Nov. 27) at New England College in Henniker, N.H. (7:00 p.m.).
