Lebanon Valley skates past Panthers

WATERVILLE VALLEY, N.H. - Lebanon Valley College scored seven power play goals, including four during a Plymouth State College major penalty, and the Flying Dutchmen went on to post an 8-2 victory over the Panthers in an ECAC Northeast Conference hockey game at Waterville Valley Ice Arena.

Junior Brian Yingling (Steelton, Pa.) led the barrage, recording five goals and an assist. Senior Jamie Taylor (Sharon, Ont.) and sophomores Doug MacCormack (Palmyra, Pa.) and Ian Sinclair (Thornhill, Ont.) netted a goal and an assist apiece for the Flying Dutchmen.

With the game scoreless with five minutes to go in the first period, PSC was called for a five-minute major penalty. LVC capitalized, as Yingling scored twice and MacCormack and Taylor added one each to give the Flying Dutchmen a 4-0 lead before the end of the period. Yingling tallied two more with the man-advantage in the second period to make it a 6-0 game and put the Panthers away.

Senior John Hornor (Marlton, N.J.) and freshman Kyle Poirier (Concord, N.H.) put PSC on the board with third period power play goals, but it was too little, too late.

Senior Lincoln Matlock (Malone, N.Y.) got the win in the LVC goal with 15 saves. PSC senior Larry Forgue (Nahsua, N.H.) stopped 16 of 20 shots before being replaced by sophomore Mike Mansson (Wilson, WY), who made 27 saves in 42 minutes of action.

Lebanon Valley moves into a tie for first place in the ECAC Northeast Conference at 8-2-0 overall and 5-0-0 in conference play, while PSC drops to 1-6-0 and 1-3-0. The Panthers are back at home Saturday night against Westfield State (7:00 p.m.). LVC plays Saturday at Fitchburg State (1:00 p.m.).
