DUDLEY, Mass. - Junior Tony LaScola (Fairfax, Va.) had a goal and an assist while senior goaltender Larry Forgue (Nashua, N.H.) stopped 27 shots Saturday night to lift Plymouth State College past Nichols College, 4-2, in ECAC Northeast ice hockey action.
The Panthers dominated play over the first two periods, firing 28 shots on goal to 21 for Nichols. LaScola and freshman Max Wernert (Greenwich, Ct.) tallied first period goals for the Panthers, and freshman Kyle Poirier (Concord, N.H.) and sophomore Ralph Menzione (Downers Grove, Ill.) gave PSC a 4-0 lead late in the second period.
The Bison came out in the third period with two quick goals by Adam Tharp (Colchester, Conn.) and BJ Ahern (West Bridgewater, Mass.), but it was too little, too late as Forgue helped PSC hold on for the win.
Junior Adam Gray (Bradford, Mass.) stopped 37 shots for Nichols, who dropped to 2-8-0 overall and 0-4-0 in conference play.
The victory stopped a five-game losing streak for PSC, giving the Panthers a 2-4-0 conference record and 2-7-0 overall mark at the unofficial halfway point in the season. After a three-week break for final exams and the holidays, the Panthers return to action on Tuesday, Jan. 8th, with a non-conference home game against the University of Southern Maine at Waterville Valley Ice Arena (7:00 p.m.).
