Late goal lifts SNHU past PSC in OT

HOOKSETT, N.H. -- Sophomore David Yazinka's (Wakefield, MA) power play goal with 15.3 seconds to play in overtime lifted the Southern New Hampshire University hockey team to a 3-2 victory over Plymouth State College Tuesday night at Tri-Town Arena.

SNHU snapped a three-game losing streak and improved to 6-6-0 overall and 4-2-0 in the ECAC Northeast, while the Panthers dropped to 3-9-0 overall and 3-5-0 in the league.

The teams were tied 1-1 after the first period, with sophomore Aaron Keller (Concord, NH) connecting for PSC and sophomore Darren Catalano (Atkinson, NH) answering for the Penmen with a power play goal late in the period. Junior Vin Forgione (Hingham, MA) tallied a short-handed goal for SNHU to open the second period, but junior Tony LaScola (Fairfax, VA) tied it at 2-2 midway through the period and the scored stayed that way until Yazinka's OT game-winner.

Sophomore Brian Holland (Bordentown, NJ) went the distance in net for the Penmen and stopped 27 shots, while senior Larry Forgue (Nashua, NH) made 32 saves for the Panthers.

SNHU returns to action Thursday (1/17) when it hosts Western New England College in an ECAC Northeast game. PSC returns home to host Salve Regina in a non-conference game Thursday (1/17) at Waterville Valley Ice Arena (7:00 p.m.).
