Bodnar's two goals leads PSC over Suffolk

BOSTON, Mass. - Freshman Michal Bodnar (Laconia, N.H.) scored two goals Tuesday night, including one on a penalty shot, as Plymouth State College's ice hockey team registered a key ECAC Northeast Conference road victory with a 3-2 decision over Suffolk University at Walter Brown Arena.

The victory puts PSC (5-11-1 overall and 5-7-0 in the conference) in a four-way tie for sixth place in the ECAC Northeast. PSC, Curry, Fitchburg State and Worcester State, which all have 10 points, are battling for the final three Northeast play-off spots. Suffolk drops to 4-11-2 and 2-7-1.

Plymouth State and Suffolk exchanged first period goals, with sophomore Anthony Fantasia (Watertown, Mass.) scoring for the hosts and Bodnar countering with a power play goal for PSC. Freshman Chris Starr (Old Greenwich, Conn.) scored the only goal of the second period, giving the Panthers a one-goal advantage heading into the third.

Bodnar was awarded a penalty shot with 6:34 remaining in the game, and he connected, giving him four goals in eight games since joining the team at mid-season. The Rams did not quit, though, and freshman Bryan Woodford (Abington, Mass.) scored just 15 seconds after the penalty shot goal, cutting the lead back to one goal, but PSC held on for the win.

The Rams had a slight 29-24 advantage in shots on goal. PSC senior Larry Forgue (Nashua, N.H.) made 27 saves to pick up the win, while goalies Matt Consentino and Tim McGrath combined for 33 saves for Suffolk.

The Panthers play another key ECAC Northeast road game this Saturday (Feb. 9) at Fitchburg State (4:00 p.m.).
