PSC earns play-off berth with win at WSC

WORCESTER, Mass. - Senior goalie Larry Forgue (Nashua, N.H.) stopped all 30 shots Sunday night, leading the Plymouth State College ice hockey team to a 1-0 victory over Worcester State College in an ECAC Northeast Conference showdown.

The win gives the Panthers (6-13-1 overall and 6-8-0 in the conference) the eighth and final play-off berth in the upcoming ECAC Northeast Tournament. PSC and Worcester State (now 5-14-3 overall and 4-8-2 in the Northeast) were tied for eighth heading into the game. It will be PSC's first post-season berth since making back-to-back appearances in 1998 and 1999.

The only goal of the game was a first-period score at 10:39 by PSC freshman Michal Bodnar (Laconia, N.H.), with assists from sophomores Mike Jackson (Middleton, Mass.) and Ryan Luczynski (Concord, N.H.). It was Bodnar's fifth goal of the season in 11 games since joining the Panthers, and his second game-winner.

Worcester State outshot Plymouth State in all three periods (12-7 in the first, 8-4 in the second and 10-4 in the third), and finished with a 30-16 advantage, but Forgue had the answer for each Lancer shot. It's Forgue's first shutout this season and the sixth of his career.

Even with one game remaining in the regular season, Plymouth State already knows its post-season opponent. The Panthers will face regular season champion Lebanon Valley College (21-3-1 overall and 13-1-1 in the Northeast) next Sunday (Feb. 24) at Hershey Park Arena in Hershey, Pa. (1:00 p.m.).

PSC wraps up the regular season Tuesday (Feb. 19) with its home finale at Waterville Valley Ice Arena against Northeast foe Western New England (7:00 p.m.).
