PLYMOUTH, N.H. - The senior goalie on the Plymouth State College ice hockey team has been named ECAC Northeast Goalie of the Week for his performance in helping the Panthers secure a play-off berth.
Senior Larry Forgue (Nashua, N.H.) was selected to receive the top weekly goalie honor. It is the first time this season Forgue has received the honor after three selections to the ECAC Honor Roll.
A 5'9", 170-pound veteran, Forgue made 30 saves Sunday to earn a 1-0 shutout over Worcester State in the showdown game for the final ECAC Northeast play-off berth. It was Forgue's first shutout of the season and sixth of his career. He also made seven saves on nine shots in a relief effort against Tufts.
Forgue has continued to pile up the saves. He has stopped more than 500 shots in all four years in a Panther uniform, and his 2,339 career saves ranks second on the PSC all-time list.
Plymouth State's win over Worcester State gives the Panthers (6-13-1 overall and 6-8-0 in the conference) the eighth seed in the upcoming ECAC Northeast Tournament. PSC and Worcester State were tied for eighth heading into the game. It will be PSC's first post-season berth since making back-to-back appearances in 1998 and 1999.
Even with one game remaining in the regular season, Plymouth State already knows its post-season opponent. The Panthers will face regular season champion Lebanon Valley College next Sunday (Feb. 24) at Hershey Park Arena in Hershey, Pa. (1:00 p.m.).
PSC wraps up the regular season Tuesday (Feb. 19) with its home finale at Waterville Valley Ice Arena against Northeast foe Western New England (7:00 p.m.).
