WATERVILLE VALLEY, N.H. - Brockport State (N.Y.) scored four power play goals and one shorthanded marker, lifting the Golden Eagles to a 10-2 non-conference ice hockey victory over Plymouth State College Friday night at Waterville Valley Ice Arena.
It was a 2-1 hockey game after the first period, but Brockport scored four unanswered goals in the second stanza to take a 6-1 lead and assume control of the game. The Golden Eagles, playing for the first time in over a month, improve to 5-8-1, while PSC had its three-game unbeaten streak (1-0-2) stopped and dropped to 1-4-3.
The game featured two head coaches, PSC's Chris Hudon and Brockport's Brian Dickinson, who were childhood friends and teammates and graduates of Amesbury (Mass.) High School.
Junior Michael Cameron (Massena, N.Y.) led Brockport with two power play goals and two assists. Senior Nick Smyth (Rochester Hills, Mich.) added two goals and one assist, including a PPG, and sophomore Peter Stasko (Batavia, N.Y.) also knocked in a pair. Single goals were contributed by sophomore Brian Bauman (Matawan, N.J.), junior John Munshaw (Westland, Mich.), sophomore Mark Digby (Fulton, N.Y.) and sophomore Kevin Collins (Dearborn Heights, Mich.)
Both PSC goals came from the line of seniors Tony LaScola (Fairfax, Va.) and Craig Russell (Northfield, Vt.) and freshman Charlie McLeman (Winchester, Mass.). LaScola potted his first of the year with Russell and freshman defenseman Jason Mitchell (Newburyport, Mass.) assisting, and Russell added a third period score from McLeman and LaScola.
Senior Brian Tefft (Blaisdell, N.Y.) earned the win in goal for Brockport with a 22-save effort. PSC freshmen goalies Chris Hyson (Colchester, Conn.) and Joe McCabe (Saugus, Mass.) combined for 28 saves.
PSC is home again Saturday with a non-conference encounter against Franklin Pierce (6 p.m.). Brockport continues its road trip Saturday with a non-league encounter at Framingham State (1:30 p.m.).
