Cadieux and Bojadzic lead PSU Men’s Ice Hockey past Franklin Pierce

WINCHENDON, Mass. - Freshmen Chris Cadieux (Nashua, N.H.) and Deni Bojadzic (Gothenburg, Sweden) tallied three points apiece Wednesday evening to lead Plymouth State University past Franklin Pierce College, 4-2, in an ECAC Northeast Conference men's ice hockey game at the Robinson-Broadhurst Arena.

Plymouth State (10-9-2, 7-5-1 ECAC NE) has qualified for the conference tournament for the first time in three years, and with two games to play, can still finish anywhere from fourth to seventh.  The 10 wins for PSU is the most in a season since the 1998-99 squad finished 13-12-0.

Cadieux racked up two goals and an assist, while Bojadzic finished with a goal and a pair of helpers. The two rookies are tied for second on the team in scoring with 21 points apiece, Cadieux with a team-high 11 goals and 10 assists and Bojadzic with 10 goals and 11 assists.

Junior Mark Gibbons (Quincy, Mass.) figured in on both goals for the Ravens, scoring one and assisting on the other.

The teams went scoreless until the 8:37 mark of the second period, when Cadieux notched his first goal off assists by classmate Bobby Dashner (Hyde Park, Mass.) and Bojadzic. Sophomore Jay Londer (Philadelphia, Pa.) netted an unassisted goal 23 seconds later to give the visitors a 2-0 advantage, and Cadieux added a short-handed goal in the 16th minute of the second frame, giving Plymouth State a three-goal cushion.

Franklin Pierce got on the board 11:14 into the third period, when sophomore C.J Demmons (Wolfeboro, Mass.) capitalized on a Gibbons helper to make the score 3-1. Gibbons brought the hosts to within a goal, as he took a pass from freshman Joseph Fields (Lansdale, Pa.) at the 15:39 mark of the third frame.

The Panthers iced the contest in the final minute of regulation on a Bojadzic power-play goal and held the hosts scoreless for the final 25 seconds to pick up a 4-2 victory.

Freshman goaltender Karl Helgesson (Lerum, Sweden) saved 32 shots en route to the win, while Ravens netminder Dennis Millman (Billerica, Mass.) suffered the loss despite stopping 45 shots.

The Panthers host Worcester State Saturday in the final regular season home game at Waterville Valley Ice Arena (6:00 p.m. ), and wrap up the regular season next Tuesday at Western New England.

Franklin Pierce (5-13-2, 4-9-1 ECAC NE) returns to action Saturday with a conference game at Southern New Hampshire (7:30 p.m.)
