Plymouth State Mens Hockey cruises past Framingham State
WATERVILLE VALLEY, N.H. - Junior Goose LaCroix (Moretown, Vt.) scored two goals Saturday afternoon to lead Plymouth State University past Framingham State College, 5-1, in an ECAC Northeast Conference men's ice hockey game at Waterville Valley Ice Arena.
The Panthers started the game flying as they scored two times in the first three minutes. Senior Matt Withers (Laconia, N.H.) got the hosts on the board one minute into the game with a screaming slap shot, assisted by sophomore Topo LaCroix (Moretown, Vt.) and Deni Bojadzic (Gothenburg, Sweden). Less than two minutes later Goose LaCroix made it 2-0, assisted by Joey Lee (Manchester, N.H.)
The visitors cut the lead in half with a power play goal with eight minutes to play in the period as Donald Morgan (Burlington, Mass.) set up teammate Sean Maguire (Plymouth, Mass.) who found the back of the net.
PSU tallied two unanswered goals in the second period as Goose LaCroix and senior Dennis Kane (Westford, Mass) tallied goals for the hosts.
Panther sophomore Chris Cadieux (Nashua, N.H.) rounded out the scoring for PSU six minutes into the third period with a power play goal.
Sophomore goalie Karl Helgesson (Lerum, Sweden) made 20 saves to earn the win for PSU. Sophomore Patrick Sampson (Braintree, Mass.) lasted only two minutes recording one save, and freshman Douglas MacAuley (Winchester, Mass.) came on to register 35 saves for the visitors.
PSU, 7-3-1 overall and 5-0-0 in the conference, heads to Springfield, Mass., on Sunday to face Western New England (1:15 p.m.) Framingham State, 7-3-1 overall and 1-5-0 in the Northeast, hosts Southern Maine Tuesday (7:20 p.m.)
