New England Hockey Writers honor PSU Mens Ice Hockey playersPLYMOUTH, N.H.
- Two members of the 2005-06 Plymouth State University men's ice hockey team have been recognized for their outstanding seasons with selection to the New England Hockey Writers ECAC Northeast All-Star Team. The team was announced Wednesday after a vote of league head coaches and an esteemed panel of media members.
PSU sophomore netminder Karl Helgesson (Lerum, Sweden) was named the ECAC Northeast Most Valuable Player and one of the two All-Star goalies, and junior Goose LaCroix (Moretown, Vt.) was one of the six All-Star forwards. They were two of the leaders that led the Panthers to a 16-9-1 overall record, posting the third-highest number of wins in a season in school history.
Helgesson, who earned ECAC Northeast Player and Goaltender of the Year honors, played in 24 games for the Panthers, posting a .919 save percentage and a 2.88 goals against average to go along with a 15-8-1 record and a pair of shutouts. LaCroix earned Second Team All-ECAC Northeast honors after tying for the team lead with 18 goals scored and adding 15 assists for 33 points. Four of his goals were game-winners.
The members of this year's All-Star team will be honored at the annual New England Hockey Writers' Association banquet, which will be held on Thursday, April 13, at the Prince Restaurant on Route One in Saugus, Mass.
