Two PSU Mens Ice Hockey freshmen honored by the ECAC
PLYMOUTH, N.H. - Two freshmen on the Plymouth State University men's ice hockey team continue to make headlines and have been recognized by the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) for their efforts in three Panther games last week.
Freshman forward Chris Chambers (Crofton, Md./DeMatha Catholic/Boston Harborwolves) has been named ECAC Northeast Conference Rookie of the Week, and freshman goaltender Mick Fitzpatrick (Lancaster, N.Y.) is a member of the ECAC Northeast Weekly Honor Roll. They were key players in PSU's 1-1-1 week which included the championship of the Police Athletic League (PAL) Stovepipe Tournament in Hooksett, N.H.
A 6'3", 190-pound forward, Chambers (left) finished the
week with six goals in three games (plus one other in a shootout),
and was named Most Valuable Player of the PAL Tournament. He
started his week last Tuesday with one goal in PSU's 3-2
non-conference loss to Castleton State. Chambers scored the tying
goal with 3:24 remaining in regulation in PSU's first game at the
PAL Tournament last Saturday against Brockport State, forcing a
shootout, and he then scored the winning goal in the shootout to
send the Panthers to the title game. Chambers capped his week with
four goals, including the game-winner, in the championship game to
earn the Michael Briggs Memorial Most Valuable Player Award.
Chambers leads the team and is among the league leaders with eight
goals and four assists in seven games.
A 6'0", 185-pound goalie, Fitzpatrick (right) recorded a
2.01 goals against average and a .945 saves percentage in three
games and was named to the All-Tournament Team. He made 33 saves in
Tuesday's 3-2 loss to Castleton State; he stopped 37 of 38 shots in
the PAL Tournament game against Brockport, plus four of five
attempts in the shootout; and made 33 saves in the championship
game victory over Southern New Hampshire. Fitzpatrick is fourth in
the league with a 2.99 goals against average and a .914 saves
percentage.
PSU, 2-4-1 overall and 1-1-0 in the Northeast, returns to conference action this Saturday with a 6:00 p.m. contest against Salve Regina University at Waterville Valley Ice Arena.
