PSU Men’s Ice Hockey falls to hosts in Salem State Tourney opener

SALEM, Mass. - The host Vikings received goals from eight different players Wednesday evening en route to an 8-3 victory over Plymouth State University in the opening round of the Salem State College Hockey Classic at Richard Rockett Arena.

SSC will face Bowdoin College, an 8-1 first round winner over Fitchburg State, in the title game Thursday at 7:00 pm. Plymouth State and Fitchburg State will play at 4:00 pm in the third-place game.

The Vikings (4-5) jumped out to a 3-0 first period lead and never looked back in its non-conference clash with the Panthers (3-6-1). Senior Andrew O'Neill (Salem, Mass.) recorded three assists for the winners who received goals from Kevin Ciborowski (West Springfield, Mass.), Damen Nisula (Gardner, Mass.), Chris MacInnis (Waltham, Mass.), Ryan Hayes (Danvers, Mass.), Jeff Tellier (Chicopee, Mass.), Brett Noll (Sandwich, Mass.), Jonathan Fecteau (St. Benoit, Quebec) and David Pazaglia (Oakdale, Conn). Aaron Blades (Chino, Calif.) and Tellier each picked up a pair of helpers for the winners.

Junior Deni Bojadzic (Gothenburg, Sweden) scored a pair of second period goals for the Panthers, giving him five on the season, and sophomore Pat Turcotte (Goffstown, N.H.) added his first of the year in the final frame. Senior Jay Londer (Philadelphia, Pa.) and freshman Chris Chambers (Crofton, Md.) each collected two assists.

Sophomore goaltender Ryan Hatch (Medway, Mass.) made 21 saves for the Vikings, who have now won two straight. PSU netminders Mick Fitzpatrick (Lancaster, N.Y.) and Erik Shields stopped 27 and 20 shots, respectively.
