PSU Men’s Ice Hockey defeated by Fitchburg in Salem State Tournament

SALEM, Mass. - Sophomore Matt Arsenault (Gardner, Mass.) notched a hat trick and added a pair of assists Thursday afternoon to guide Fitchburg State College past Plymouth State University, 7-2, in the third-place game of the Salem State College Hockey Classic at Richard Rockett Arena.

The Falcons jumped out to a 3-1 first-period lead behind goals from Greg Mailloux (Gardner, Mass.), Mike Dryer (Rockland, Mass.) and the eventual game-winner by Arsenault. PSU countered with a goal by freshman Ryan Paglinco (West Haven, Conn.), his second of the season.

Fitchburg State's Ryan Moore (Randolph, Mass.) and Andrew Hutton (Brewster, Mass.) netted even-strength goals in the middle period to extend the FSC cushion to 5-1. Arsenault rounded out his hat trick with a pair in the final frame, sandwiched around the first career goal by PSU freshman Petter Adeberg (Bromma, Sweden).

Falcon goaltender Chris Guyer (Marlboro, Mass.) turned away 33 shots to earn his second win for Fitchburg State. Freshmen Mick Fitzpatrick (Lancaster, N.Y.) and Erik Shields combined for 30 saves in the Panther net.
