PSU Men’s Ice Hockey skates past Nichols

WATERVILLE VALLEY, N.H. - Junior Topo LaCroix (Moretown, Vt.) scored one goal and assisted on two others Wednesday evening to lead Plymouth State University to a 6-2 victory over Nichols College in an ECAC Northeast Conference men's ice hockey action at Waterville Valley Ice Arena.

LaCroix led an offensive spurt for the Panthers that included five unanswered goals. After the teams traded first period goals, Nichols took a 2-1 lead six minutes into the second stanza. PSU tied it at 2-2 at the 11:27 mark and then added a pair of goals 48 seconds apart late in the middle frame to take a 4-2 lead. LaCroix then set up senior Jay Londer (Philadelphia, Pa.) for two insurance goals in the third period to clinch the win.

Junior Deni Bojadzic (Gothenburg, Sweden) and freshman Chris Chambers (Crofton, Md.) contributed a goal and an assist each to the Panther offense, and junior Ryan Moreau (Worcester, Mass.) scored once for the winners.

Sophomore Ryan Gervais (Chicago, Ill.) and senior Corey Horner (South Bend, Ind.) found the net for the Bison.

PSU finished with a 37-24 advantage in shots. Freshman Erik Shields (Lebanon, Maine) picked up his second straight win in goal with 22 saves. Freshman Matt Gassman (Littleton, Colo.) and sophomore Keith Fink (Easton, Md.) combined to make 31 stops in the losing effort.

The game included a lot of special teams play, with 15 penalties called on Nichols and 13 on PSU. The Panthers were 2-for-13 on power plays while the Bison were 0-for-10 with the man advantage.

Plymouth State, 5-9-1 overall and 4-1-0 in the ECAC Northeast, has seven days off before hosting Southern New Hampshire University next Wednesday at Waterville Valley (6:00 p.m.) Nichols, 8-4-1 overall and 4-3-0 in the Northeast, returns home to host Framingham State on (8:15 p.m.)
