LaCroix’s hat trick leads PSU Men’s Ice Hockey past Worcester State

LACONIA, N.H. - Senior Goose LaCroix (Moretown, Vt.) scored three goals and classmate Nate Gardner (Manchester, N.H.) collected three assists Saturday evening to lead Plymouth State University to a 6-3 victory over Worcester State College in ECAC Northeast Conference men's ice hockey action at Laconia Ice Arena.

LaCroix scored the first two goals of the game to help the Panthers build a 3-0 first period lead, and completed the hat trick with a third-period power play goal to put PSU up 5-2 with seven minutes remaining. Senior Dan McLaughlin (Medford, Mass.) scored a power play goal for the Lancers with 2:23 to play to pull the visitors to within two goals, but PSU tacked on an empty-netter to close out the game.

Senior Derek Avakian (Edgartown, Mass.), junior Deni Bojadzic (Gothenburg, Sweden) and freshman Chris Chambers (Crofton, Md.) each recorded a goal and an assist for PSU, and sophomore Pat Turcotte (Goffstown, N.H.) chipped in with a pair of assists.

Senior Chris Krawczyk (Marlboro, Mass.) had a goal and two assists for the Lancers, and McLaughlin and sophomore Tom Ford (North Grafton, Mass.) a goal and a helper each.

Freshman Erik Shields (Lebanon, Maine) recorded the win in the Panther goal with a 27-save effort. Senior Mark Holman (Lincoln, Neb.) turned in a solid effort in the Lancer cage with 40 saves.

PSU, 8-4-1 in conference play and 9-12-2 overall, completes the regular season with conference road games Sunday at Franklin Pierce (7:00 p.m.) and Tuesday at Western New England (8:30 p.m.) Worcester State completes its season at 4-11-0 in the ECAC Northeast and 6-16-1 overall.
