McQuade leads PSU Mens Ice Hockey past WNEC
WATERVILLE VALLEY, N.H. - Freshman Seth McQuade (Manchester, N.H./NH Monarchs) scored two goals and added two assists Wednesday night to lead the Plymouth State University men's ice hockey team past Western New England College, 5-1, in an ECAC Northeast Conference game at Waterville Valley Arena.
Sophomore Chris Chambers (Crofton, Md.) added a goal and two assists for the Panthers. PSU moved back to the .500 mark at 4-4-2 overall (1-2-1 in conference games), while WNEC is still looking for its first win of the season (0-12-1, 0-5-1).
WNEC got on the board first midway through the first period on a power play goal by junior Craig Reyell (West Chazy, N.Y.) McQuade answered for PSU just 35 seconds later to tie the score at 1-1, which is how the first period ended.
Senior Deni Bojadzic (Gothenburg, Sweden) gave the Panthers a 2-1 lead with the eventual game-winner at 11:18 of the second period, and McQuade set up Chambers for a goal two minutes later to extend the margin to 3-1.
PSU took full control in the third period, out-shooting the visitors 15-2 and scoring the only two goals. McQuade made it 4-1 at the 4:48 mark, and freshman Jason Butler (Farmington, Conn.) rounded out the scoring with his first career goal at 14:47.
Senior Karl Helgesson (Lerum, Sweden) registered the win in goal for the Panthers, making 21 saves, while sophomore Kyle Sagnella (East Haven, Conn.) stopped 28 shots for WNEC at the other end.
The Panthers travel to New York this weekend for a two-game non-conference series at Cortland State (Friday at 7:00 p.m., Saturday at 3:00 p.m.) WNEC returns home to host Potsdam (N.Y.) Saturday at 7:40 p.m.
