(Box Score

NEW BEDFORD, Mass. - Sophomore Bryan Kriner (Newport, R.I.) scored his 12th goal of the season 3:55 into overtime Thursday evening to give visiting Plymouth State University a 6-5 victory over the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth in a Massachusetts State College Athletic Conference men's ice hockey game at Hetland Ice Arena.

Freshman Richie Zobak's (Evergreen Park, Ill.) shot from the point went through traffic in front and was deflected by Kriner past UMass Dartmouth senior goaltender Jon Dryjowicz-Burek (Ludlow, Mass.) to give PSU the victory. The Panthers won their third straight game to improve to 9-6-0 overall and 6-3-0 in MASCAC games, while UMD dropped its fourth in a row and fell to 5-9-1 overall and 1-7-1 in conference play.

Each team had scored twice in the third period, which started with a 3-3 deadlock. Junior Jason Stahl (Londonderry, N.H.) gave UMD a 4-3 lead when he deflected home a shot by classmate Mickey Dudley (Douglas, Mass.) for a power play goal at 7:55. Sophomore Jake Curtin (Concord, N.H.) tied the score for PSU when he one-timed a shot from the face-off circle for a power play goal. Senior Aaron Blades (Chino, Calif.) put UMD back ahead when he flipped a rebound off the glass past PSU senior goaltender Aaron Runner (Alpharetta, Ga.) at 12:10, but senior Chris Chambers (Crofton, Md.) tied it at 5-5 with a power play goal at 15:50.

The Panthers had taken an early lead when freshman Alex Cottle (West Chester, Pa.) banged home a rebound at 5:14 of the first period. PSU increased its lead when freshman Tim Visich (Mount Pleasant, Mich.) fired home a one-timer from the right face-off circle at 11:10.

The Corsairs came back to tie the score at 2-2 on a pair of goals by sophomore Rob Dudley (Douglas, Mass.) A power play goal by Zobak with 23 seconds remaining in the first period gave PSU a 3-2 advantage heading into the second period.

Only one goal was scored in the middle frame, as freshman Phil Bronner (Wilbraham, Mass.) tied the score with his first goal of the season at 12:35.

UMD out shot Plymouth State, 39-27. Dryjowicz-Burek made 21 saves for the Corsairs, while Runner made 34 for the Panthers.

Both teams play again on Saturday, UMD hosting Worcester State for a MASCAC encounter and PSU traveling to Franklin Pierce University for a non-conference match-up.
