Top academic honor for PSU Mens Ice Hockey player
PLYMOUTH, N.H. – The top player on the 2009-10 Plymouth State University men's hockey team has been honored for his successful accomplishments in the classroom as well as on the ice.
Senior Chris Chambers (Crofton, Md.) has been named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Team, as selected by CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America). Chambers was voted to the Academic All-District 1 At-Large First Team in the College Division, and is now eligible to be selected to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America Team.
A four-year veteran forward for the Panthers, Chambers was named Massachusetts State College Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Player of the Year and First Team All-Star in 2009-10. He led the MASCAC in goals (18), assists (27) and points (45) in 27 games and was a finalist for the 2010 Joe Concannon Award, presented annually to the best American-born college hockey player in New England playing at the D-II/III level.
Chambers, who finished his collegiate career third on PSU’s all-time scoring list with 117points (58 goals, 59 assists), made a successful professional debut in March with the Johnstown (Pa.) Chiefs of the East Coast Hockey league.
A communication studies major, Chambers will graduate from PSU this Saturday with an honors degree. He has been selected to the PSU President’s List and/or Dean’s List every semester at Plymouth State, and served as president of the communications national honor society. He has been selected to the Academic All-League Team the past three years, twice in the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Northeast and this past season in the MASCAC.
