Top academic honor for PSU Mens Ice Hockey player
PLYMOUTH, N.H. – The top player on the 2009-10 Plymouth State University men's hockey team has been honored for his successful accomplishments in the classroom as well as on the ice.
Senior Chris Chambers (Crofton, Md.) has been named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Team, as selected by CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America). Chambers was voted to the Academic All-District 1 At-Large First Team in the College Division, and is now eligible to be selected to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America Team.
A four-year veteran forward for the Panthers, Chambers was named
Massachusetts State College Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Player of
the Year and First Team All-Star in 2009-10. He led the
MASCAC in goals (18), assists (27) and points (45) in 27 games and
was a finalist for the 2010 Joe Concannon Award, presented
annually to the best American-born college hockey player in New
England playing at the D-II/III level.
Chambers, who finished his collegiate career third on PSU’s all-time scoring list with 117points (58 goals, 59 assists), made a successful professional debut in March with the Johnstown (Pa.) Chiefs of the East Coast Hockey league.
A communication studies major, Chambers will graduate from PSU this
Saturday with an honors degree. He has been selected to the
PSU President’s List and/or Dean’s List every semester
at Plymouth State, and served as president of the communications
national honor society. He has been selected to the Academic
All-League Team the past three years, twice in the Eastern College
Athletic Conference (ECAC) Northeast and this past season in the
MASCAC.
To be eligible for the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America program, student-athletes must be a starter or important reserve with legitimate athletic credentials and maintain at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale). He/she must have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing and must have completed at least one full academic year at that institution.
