PSU Men’s Hockey downs FPU; unbeaten streak now at 14

Panthers get two goals each from Buckley, Stewart, Zaremba 

            PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Seniors Sean Buckley and Andrew Stewart filled up the score sheet with two goals and two assists apiece Saturday night as Plymouth State University defeated Franklin Pierce University, 7-2, in non-conference men's ice hockey action at Hanaway Rink.

            Junior Chris Zaremba also contributed two goals and an assist for the Panthers.  Sophomore Sean Foley posted a career-high four assists, and freshman Travis Stevens chipped in with three helpers.

            The Panther power play was most effective, scoring five times in eight opportunities with the man-advantage.  Plymouth State extends its unbeaten streak to 14 games (9-0-5) and improves to 10-1-5 overall.

            The Panthers took control of the game with four unanswered goals in the first period.  Stewart opened the scoring with a power play goal at 4:50, and Buckley made it 2-0 with his first at 9:08.  Zaremba got on the board with another power play goal at 13:57, and Stewart made it 4-0 with his second of the game and ninth of the season at 14:34.

            Sophomore Kyle Greco got into the act for PSU to open the second-period scoring, and sophomore Tyler Cornele broke through for Franklin Pierce with his fourth of the season at 6:21.

            PSU poured it on in the third period when Zaremba and Buckley tallied power play goals just 39 seconds apart to make it 7-1.  Sophomore Roscoe Sweeney (Falmouth, Mass.) rounded out the scoring for FPU at 9:54.

            The Panthers had a 42-20 advantage in shots on goal.  Freshman goaltender Tyler Ingerson earned the win in goal for PSU with 18 saves while freshman Dale Adams finished with 35 stops at the other end.

            Plymouth State is back on the ice on Thursday, traveling to Framingham State University for a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) match-up. After seven straight road games, Franklin Pierce, 3-16-0, returns home to host Stonehill College next Saturday in a Northeast-10 Conference game.
