Greco honored by MASCAC for third time this season
PLYMOUTH, N.H. – The leading scorer on the Plymouth State University men’s ice hockey team was recognized Monday by the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) for his performance in a pair of Panther games last week.
Sophomore Kyle Greco (Hillside, Ill./St. Louis Bandits) was named to the MASCAC Weekly Honor Roll, marking the third time this season he has received weekly conference honors. Greco has been a key figure for PSU this season after transferring from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point.
A 6’0”, 190-pound forward, Greco recorded a five-point week with three goals and two assists, leading PSU to a 1-1 week in a pair of MASCAC games. He scored a power play goal in Thursday’s 6-3 loss at Fitchburg State, and he tallied two goals and two assists in Saturday’s 7-4 win over Westfield State. His first goal vs. Westfield extended PSU’s lead to 3-1 just 39 seconds into the second period; he assisted on consecutive power play goals later in the period as PSU turned a 3-2 lead into a 5-2 advantage; and he sealed the victory late in the third period, stealing the puck and scoring on a breakaway with two minutes to play.
Greco increased his team-leading season totals to 16 goals and 29 points in 21 games. He ranks third in the MASCAC in goals and tied for seventh in points.
Plymouth State, 15-5-5 overall, is the third seed in this week’s MASCAC Tournament, and will host sixth-seeded Westfield State in a quarterfinal game on Tuesday, Mar. 1, at Hanaway Rink (7:00 p.m.)
