PSU Men’s Ice Hockey blanks SNHU in opener
Greco leads Panther offense with four points
HOOKSETT, N.H. – Junior Kyle Greco recorded a goal and three assists Saturday evening as the Plymouth State University men's hockey team won its season opener over Southern New Hampshire University, 6-0, at the Ice Den.
Junior goaltender Jack Astedt needed to make just seven saves to post the shutout as the Panthers out-shot the Penmen by a 41-7 count.
PSU had a commanding 20-2 advantage in shots in the first period but couldn't put one past SNH goalie Tyler Holske. Junior Alex Cottle got things started for PSU early in the second period, scoring at the 2:33 mark. Senior Bryan Kriner and junior Kyle Weiland added goals a minute apart and it was 3-0 just six minutes into the second period.
Greco tallied a power play goal with a minute to play in the second period to give PSU a 4-0 lead, and the Panthers tacked on two more goals in the third, a power play marker by sophomore Phil Arnone and an even-strength goal by junior Matt Aponte.
PSU, 1-0, plays another non-conference game Thursday at Stonehill College (7:00 p.m.)
