PSU Men’s Hockey player named to MASCAC Honor Roll
Freitag honored for last week of regular season
PLYMOUTH, N.H. – One of the freshmen on the Plymouth State University men's ice hockey team was recognized Monday with a weekly honor from the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC).
Freshman forward Mike Freitag was named to the MASCAC Weekly Honor Roll for his performance in the final week of the regular season. Freitag helped the MASCAC regular season champion Panthers keep the momentum going heading into the MASCAC post-season tournament.
A 5'6", 160-pound rookie, Freitag netted a pair of goals in PSU's regular season finale, a 4-4 deadlock at Fitchburg State. He scored the first goal of the game in the first period, and his second-period marker put the Panther up 3-0 before the Falcons rallied for the tie. Freitag helped the Panthers finish the regular season on a seven-game unbeaten streak (6-0-1).
Freitag is ranked sixth on the team in scoring with five goals and nine assists for 14 points in 19 games, which is also tied for fourth among all freshman scorers in the MASCAC. He has four goals and two assists in PSU's last five outings.
Plymouth State, 15-6-3 overall and regular season champions in the MASCAC with a 12-3-3 mark, will host fifth-seeded Worcester State University in a MASCAC semifinal game at Hanaway Rink this Tuesday, Feb. 28, at 6:00 p.m.
