Freitag earns recognition after scoring key goals for Panthers
PLYMOUTH, N.H. – A junior on the Plymouth State University men's ice hockey team was recognized on Monday by the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) following a pair of Panther ties last week.
Junior Mike Freitag (Westmont, Ill.) represented the Panthers on this week's MASCAC Men's Ice Hockey Weekly Honor Roll. He scored a pair of goals as PSU posted conference deadlocks last week against Salem State University and Fitchburg State University.
A 5'6", 160-pound forward, Freitag tallied one goal in each game for the Panthers. He scored the tying goal with 5.1 seconds left in regulation in Thursday's 3-3 deadlock vs. Salem State, and his second-period goal Saturday against Fitchburg State tied the game at 1-1 in what ended as a 2-2 draw.
Freitag now has eight goals and 11 assists for 19 points in 21 games this season, which is tied for third on the team in both goals and points. He is also tied for 10th in the MASCAC with 19 points.
PSU is 2-0-2 in its last four games, moving its overall record to 9-10-2 and its MASCAC mark to 7-5-2. The Panthers have moved into second place in the conference, two points behind league-leading Salem State (8-4-2) and just one point ahead of both Framingham State (6-5-3) and Westfield State (7-6-1). Plymouth State plays just one game this week, a MASCAC encounter Thursday at UMass Dartmouth (7:30 p.m.)
