Morelli recognized for Panthers after victory over Wentworth
PLYMOUTH, N.H. – One of the goalies on the Plymouth State University men's ice hockey team was recognized Monday by the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) for his performance in a non-conference win for the Panthers last week.
Panther freshman Evan Morelli (Reading, Mass.) landed a spot on this week's MASCAC Weekly Honor Roll. Despite his role as a back-up goalie, this is the second time this season that he has earned the honor. He helped the team to its only win of the week, maintaining its spot in the Division III national rankings.
A 6'1", 190-pound netminder, Morelli made 22 saves on 24 shots (.917 save percentage) in the 4-2 win over Wentworth Saturday at Hanaway Rink. After surrendering a first-period goal, he shut down the Leopards until the final minute of the game when the visitors tack on one more. Morelli has a 3-1 record in four starts this season with a 2.00 goals against average and a .933 save percentage.
The Panthers, 11-2 overall and 6-0 in the MASCAC, return to conference action this week with a visit to the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth on Thursday before hosting Salem State University Saturday at 6:00 p.m. at Hanaway Rink.
