MASCAC weekly honors for PSU Student-Athletes

Banuskevich, Gbaley recognized in football; Stevens in men's ice hockey

PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Three Plymouth State University student-athletes were honored by the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Monday for their performances in Panther games last week.

Sophomore running back Mitch Banuskevich (Milford, N.H.) and freshman defensive back Prince Gbaley (Manchester, N.H./West) were selected to the MASCAC Football Weekly Honor Roll, and sophomore forward Ryan Stevens (Colleyville, Texas) was named to the MASCAC Men's Ice Hockey Weekly Honor Roll. Banuskevich and Gbaley were standouts in PSU's conference victory over Massachusetts Maritime last Saturday, while Stevens helped lead the Panthers to a 1-1 record last week in a pair of non-conference games.

A 5-11, 170-pound running back, Banuskevich totaled 199 all-purpose yards with one touchdown in the Panthers' 28-7 win over Mass. Maritime. He rushed a career-high 29 times for a career-best 167 yards (5.8 average) and caught two passes for 32 yards and a touchdown. His TD reception was from 13 yards out with 45 seconds left in the second quarter that gave the Panthers a 14-0 lead at the intermission.

A 5-11, 180-pound cornerback, Gbaley collected four tackles, a pass breakup and an interception return for a touchdown in the Panthers' win over Mass. Maritime. He returned the interception 60 yards for a touchdown to put the team up 28-0 with just under two minutes remaining in the third quarter.

The PSU football team, 5-4 overall and 3-4 in the MASCAC, wraps up the season this Saturday at Currier Field on Senior Day against Fitchburg State University at 1:00 p.m.

A 6'3, 200-pound sophomore transfer from Arizona State University, Stevens tallied four points on two goals and two assists in a 1-1 week for the Panthers. He scored two goals in Thursday's home opener, a 7-2 win over Stonehill College, and added two assists in Saturday's 4-3 loss to 11th-ranked Babson College.

The PSU men's hockey team, 1-2-0 overall, opens its MASCAC slate this week with a pair of conference games, Thursday at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth (7:30 p.m.) and Saturday at Hanaway Rink against defending champion Salem State University (6:00 p.m.)
