Two PSU Men’s Ice Hockey players receive MASCAC recognition

Stevens named Player/Week, Morelli repeats on Honor Roll

            PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Two members of the Plymouth State University men's ice hockey were recognized Monday with weekly recognition from the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) for their performances in a pair of conference games last week.

            Sophomore Ryan Stevens (Colleyville, Texas) was named MASCAC Men's Ice Hockey Player of the Week, and sophomore Evan Morelli (Reading, Mass.) made his second straight appearance on the MASCAC Weekly Honor Roll. They were key players as the first-place Panthers went 1-0-1 against the second- and third-place teams.

            A 6'3, 200-pound forward, Stevens collected three points on two goals (one game-winner) and one assist. He scored the second goal and assisted on the fourth in a 5-1 win over UMass Dartmouth, and he scored PSU's only goal, a first-period power play marker, in a 1-1 tie at Salem State.

            Stevens is tied for first in the MASCAC with 13 goals in 15 games (0.87 per game) and ranks second with 21 points (1.40 per game). He is also tied for sixth nationally in goals scored.

            A 6'1, 190-pounder, Morelli made 36 saves on 37 shots in PSU's 5-1 triumph over UMass Dartmouth. He made 14 saves in the second period and 15 in the third as UMD out-shot PSU 30-15 over the final 40 minutes.

            Morelli is ranked sixth among goaltenders in the MASCAC with a 3.24 goals against average, and ninth with an .883 save percentage.

            The Panthers, 8-5-2 overall and 6-1-1 in the MASCAC, play conference games Thursday at home against Framingham State University (6:00 p.m.) and Saturday at Fitchburg State University (4:00 p.m.)
