Stevens earns Division II/III honor for Panthers for 2016-17

PLYMOUTH, N.H. – The leading scorer on the Plymouth State University men's ice hockey team was honored Friday with selection to the New England Hockey Writers Association 2016-17 Men's Division II/III All-Star Team.

Sophomore Ryan Stevens (Colleyville, Texas) is one of nine forwards voted to the All-New England Team for Divisions II and III. He was a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) First Team All-Star this past winter after leading the Panthers to the MASCAC regular season title and to their sixth straight MASCAC championship game.

A 6'3, 200-pound forward, Stevens finished third in the league in scoring this season with 39 points, including a MASCAC-leading 20 goals and 19 assists, fifth-most in the league. He became the sixth player in school history to score at least 20 goals in a season, and the first since 1993.

A transfer from Arizona State University, Stevens ranked 10th in Division III this season in goals per game (0.74), and led all of Division III skaters with six short-handed goals. He had five multiple-goal games, and recorded at least one point in 23 of his 27 outings.

PSU finished the season with a 19-6-2 overall record after winning the MASCAC regular season title with a 16-1-1 mark. The Panthers lost to Salem State University in the conference title game, 4-3.
