Stevens earns Player of the Week, Morelli Goalie of the Week

PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Plymouth State University juniors Ryan Stevens (Colleyville, Texas) and Evan Morelli (Reading, Mass.) were both honored by the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) after helping to lead the men's hockey team to a pair of MASCAC wins last week.

Stevens was named the MASCAC Men's Ice Hockey Player of the Week, while Morelli earned Goalie of the Week honors.

Monday marks the second POTW award for Stevens, who was also honored on Oct. 30, while it is the first weekly award for Morelli.

Both players had significant roles in a pair of key MASCAC wins last week. Stevens assisted on the game-winning goal in the Panthers' 2-0 win over Fitchburg State on Tuesday, while Morelli stopped all 17 shots he faced to earn his first shutout of the season.

Stevens added a goal and three assists on Saturday as PSU cruised past UMass Dartmouth by a 7-1 score. Morelli made 34 saves, including 18 in the third period, to improve his season record to 4-0-0.

Last winter's leading scorer, Stevens has picked up right where he left off. The 6-3 forward leads the Panthers with four goals and nine points, and his five assists are second best. His 1.80 points per game are tied for the most in the MASCAC, while his 0.80 goals per game and 1.00 assists per game are both tied for third best in the league.

Morelli has been even more impressive. The 6-1 goalie has allowed just 1.00 goals per game and owns a .963 save percentage. He has proved even stingier in MASCAC contests, sporting a 0.50 GAA and .981 save percentage. All four marks are tops in the league.

The Panthers are back at home on Thursday night (Nov. 16) to face Salem State in a rematch of last year's championship game. Puck-drop is at 6:00 p.m.
