PSU Men’s Ice Hockey player earns weekly recognition from MASCAC

Laviolette selected to Weekly Honor Roll for first time

PLYMOUTH, N.H. – For the eighth-straight week a member of the Plymouth State University men's ice hockey team earned weekly recognition from the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC).

Freshman forward Peter Laviolette (Nashville, Tenn.) was named to the MASCAC Men's Ice Hockey Weekly Honor Roll after scoring a pair of goals in a 1-0-1 week for the Panthers.

After falling behind the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth 1-0 on Thursday, Laviolette kick-started the Panther offense with a game-tying goal eight minutes into the second period. He streaked down the right side of the ice and fired a wrist shot past the UMD goalie, for the first of three PSU goals in a six-minute span. The Panthers added three more tallies in the third period to earn the 6-2 victory.

On Saturday's Senior Day contest against rival Salem State University, Laviolette gave PSU a 2-1 lead with another second period score. The rookie collected a pass at the neutral zone side boards, sped past the Vikings' defense and snuck the puck into the five-hole. The teams would skate to a 3-3 tie.

Laviolette has come on strong as of late. A third of the rookie's points have come in the last four games.

Plymouth State (17-4-2, 13-2-1 MASCAC) travels to Framingham State University on Saturday (4:50 p.m.) for another league game before wrapping up the regular season at home against Westfield State University on Tuesday (Feb. 20).

The Panthers have already secured the MASCAC regular season championship for the sixth time in seven years, and will be the top seed in the upcoming MASCAC Tournament.
