PSU Men’s Ice Hockey player earns MASCAC recognition

Covach named to Weekly Honor Roll for first time

PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Plymouth State University men's ice hockey forward Michael Covach (Shillington, Pa.) was recognized by the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) for his performance following Saturday's game at Framingham State University.

Covach, a 5-11 junior, was named to the MASCAC Weekly Honor Roll after recording his first career hat trick in Plymouth State's 7-1 victory over the Rams, the only game of the week for PSU.

After Framingham State evened the score at 1-1 at the 7:37 mark of the first period Covach potted what would prove to be the game-winner less than two minutes later. With the Panthers on the power play, Covach scored with assists from juniors Tim Perron (Northborough, Mass.) and Ryan Stevens (Colleyville, Texas).

Plymouth added a pair of goals in the second period to take a 4-1 lead before Covach put the game out of reach with two third period goals. Both were even strength tallies, with Stevens and sophomore Drake Longaker (San Jose, Calif.) assisting on the first and Stevens and senior Chris Zuccaro (Hudson, N.H.) recording assists on the third.

Covach now has four goals and four assists on the year.

Plymouth State wraps up the regular season with a home game on Tuesday when the Panthers welcome Westfield State University to Hanaway Rink for a 6:00 p.m. contest.

PSU has already locked up the top seed for next week's MASCAC Tournament and will host a semifinal contest next Tuesday (Feb. 27) with game time set for 7:00 p.m.
