PSU Men’s Ice Hockey announces 2018-19 schedule

Panthers set to open season Oct. 27

            PLYMOUTH, N.H. – With its sights set on a return to the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) championship game, the Plymouth State University men's ice hockey team revealed its 2018-19 schedule today.

            Despite capturing the regular season title for the sixth time in seven years last winter, the Panthers were denied a seventh straight MASCAC title game appearance after a shocking upset in the semifinals. The team, led by ninth-year head coach Craig Russell, heads into 2018-19 with a renewed sense of focus.

            PSU opens the season with a pair of games at Hanaway Rink, starting with a non-conference tilt against Johnson & Wales on Oct. 27 (7:00 p.m.). The Panthers open MASCAC play three days later (Oct. 30) when Worcester State comes to town for a 6:00 p.m. contest.

            Plymouth State travels to NCAA Division II Stonehill College on Nov. 3, ahead of a road game at Fitchburg State on Nov. 8 (7:00 p.m.).

            The Panthers return home for the annual Salute the Troops game on Nov. 10, when they face MASCAC-foe UMass Dartmouth at 6:00 p.m. A date with non-conference Castleton on Nov. 13 (6:00 p.m.) wraps up the mini-homestand.

            PSU visits rival Salem State on Nov. 15 (7:00 p.m.) before closing the month of November by hosting Framingham State on Nov. 29 (6:00 p.m.).

            Plymouth stays in league play on Dec. 1 when the Panthers travel to Westfield State (5:35 p.m.), and wrap up the fall semester with a home date with Endicott on Dec. 6 (6:00 p.m.).

            Plymouth State kicks off the second half schedule with three straight road games. First up is a visit to the University of New England on Jan. 4 (7:00 p.m.). The Nor'easters finished last year with a 20-6-3 mark and a trip to the NCAA Tournament. A league contest at Worcester State (Jan. 5, 6:50 p.m.) comes next, and PSU closes out the stretch with a non-conference game at Curry on Jan. 8 (6:50 p.m.).

            The Panthers host Fitchburg State on Jan. 10 (6:00 p.m.) in another MASCAC game before visiting UMass Dartmouth on Jan. 12 (4:00 p.m.). PSU hosts Salem State on Jan. 17 (6:00 p.m.).

            Five days later Plymouth State will visit Salve Regina (Jan. 22, 8:30 p.m.). The Seahawks advanced all the way to last season's NCAA Championship game, falling 3-2 in double overtime to St. Norbert.

            The Panthers have eight straight MASCAC games to wrap up the regular season, visiting Framingham State on Jan. 24 (7:30 p.m.), ahead of home games against Westfield State (Jan. 26, 6:00 p.m.) and Worcester State (Jan. 31, 6:00 p.m.).

            PSU travels to Fitchburg State on Feb. 2 (5:00 p.m.), hosts UMass Dartmouth on Feb. 7 (6:00 p.m.) and travels back to Salem State on Feb. 9 (2:00 p.m.). The Panthers will celebrate Senior Day against Framingham State on Feb. 16 (6:00 p.m.), setting up the regular season finale at Westfield State on Feb. 19 (7:35 p.m.).

            The top six teams following the conclusion of the regular season will advance to the MASCAC tournament, with the top two seeds receiving byes to the semifinal round. First round games are set for Feb. 23, with semifinals on Feb. 26. The highest remaining seed will host the championship game on Mar. 2.
