Panthers inching towards national ranking

PLYMOUTH, N.H. – After extending its season-opening unbeaten streak to five straight games, the Plymouth State University men's ice hockey team is inching closer to receiving a national ranking.

The top two spots in the USCHO.com and D3hockey.com polls are identical, with the University of Wisconsin Stevens Point holding the number one ranking and Adrian taking the second spot.

Plymouth State remained in the "receiving votes" section of each poll, but increased its point total from four to five in the D3hockey.com poll, and from four to 18 in the USCHO.com poll.

PSU extended its best start to the season in at least 30 years with a 1-0-1 showing last week. The Panthers battled back from a 2-0 deficit to earn a 2-2 tie at Fitchburg State on Thursday, then topped the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth on Salute the Troops night on Saturday by a 4-2 margin.

Plymouth State (4-0-1, 2-0-1 MASCAC) has a pair of contests this week. The Panthers welcome Castleton University to Hanaway Rink for a non-conference game on Tuesday (Nov. 13) with puck-drop set for 6:00 p.m. PSU is back in MASCAC play on Thursday (Nov. 15) when the Panthers square off with Salem State at 7:00 p.m.

The complete polls can be found at USCHO.com and D3hockey.com.
